SPANISH TESTER FOR THE TI-92

Thank you for trying out my program. It was programmed on the TI-92 by me,
but I didn't have a graphlink. So I typed it into the computer. Thanks to
Mike Newman for helping me get the bugs out of it. Thanks also to David
Cantrell for his Homework Trakker program which taught me how to do a
database on the TI-92

Spanish tester is a spanish database that will quiz you on the words in the
database. When you first start the program, it will display a blank screen
with pulldown menus at the top. Press F2 for edit, then select add new word.
A dialog box will appear asking you the word in english, the word in spanish,
The part of speech of the word, and the gender of the word. Enter these
in, ignoring gender if your word is not a noun. When you are done, press
enter. Another dialog box will appear, asking you if you would like to add
another word. Press enter for yes, and enter as many words as you like. When
you are done, select no.
Now you have a database of spanish words. Twelve of your words are displayed
on the screen. There is an arrow pointing to the current word, in this case
the first one. Press F4 to move the arrow down and F3 to move it up. For
page down press F6 and for page up press F5. To maintain your database, you
can add more words, edit the current word, and delete the current word. You
can sort the words according to their English or Spanish forms. You can also
look up a word in English or Spanish.
To quiz yourself, press F1 for file and select quiz. A dialog will come up,
giving you the word in English, and asking you what it is in Spanish. If the
word is a noun, you will be asked for the gender also. After you have typed
in the word, press enter. If you got the word right, you will be asked
another word. If you got it wrong, a dialog box will come up telling you so,
and giving you what you said the word was and what the word really is. If you
got the word right, you will not be quizzed on it again until you have been
quizzed on all the other words. Below the dialog box, your percentage so far
will be shown. When you have finished all the words, a text box will appear
that says done. To quit the quiz at any time, press ESC.
If you like, you can have several "files" of words. This can be useful for
quizzing yourself only on the words in a particular chapter. To do this,
enter all the words for the chapter into the database. When you are done,
press F1 for file, and select save as. You will be prompted for a filename,
which can be no more than 7 characters in length. Enter the filename and
press enter. That chapter is now saved. Be careful, there is no warning when
you overwrite a file that already exists. To open a file, go to file open and
enter the name of the file you wish to open. To start a new file, enter the
name of a file that doesn't exist. There will be one blank word, which you
will have to edit, then you can add more words in the normal fashion.
To exit, press F1 for file and 5 for exit. You will be returned to the
home screen. For information about the program, go to file about. To redraw
the definitions, press F7. There is no on-line help, because I didn't want
to take up extra memory space, and because I think that this document is
sufficient.

I included the lists of words I had on my calculator in the group file.
Go to File Load. The filenames are "ec", "ch1", and "ch2". These correspond
to the chapters in my spanish book, "Voces y Vistas." I doubt you use this
book because it's old. "ec" stands for en camino, or on the way.

Version History
---------------
v0.9 Most features implemented except score shown on quiz. I think the
version I uploaded to TICALC.ORG didn't work or something.
v1.0 This version. Has score on quiz.

Because I don't have a graphlink and can't make sure that this version works,
this may not work completely right. Sorry. E-mail me bugs or comments.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, bugs, or if you just want
to tell me what a great (or sucky) program I wrote, please don't hesitate to
e-mail me. My e-mail address is dsplaisted@geocities.com. If you would like

Programmers:
You are free to change this program in any way you like, whatsoever, etc.
But please don't distribute your version; e-mail it to me instead. You can
copy routines out of it if you like, and use them in your own programs, but
it would be nice if you could include my name somewhere in your program. :)
